Meet Our Newest Team Member!

After a tough but successful first week of practice with the team, we celebrated the arrival of our newest teammate Daisy Locke. Daisy, a survivor of a brain tumor, joins us through the Friends of Jaclyn organization. The Friends of Jaclyn organization matches children with a college team, creating a new family for the child and providing them
with support, friendship, and love (http://www.friendsofjaclyn.org ). Daisy was welcomed to the team with lots of laughs, love, and of course, lots of Babson gear! Over some pizza, each class had the opportunity to introduce themselves so Daisy would get to know us a little better. We also got to know Daisy better too. We learned how she loves Starbursts, has a great laugh, and keeps Mr. Locke on his toes! After introductions, we split into our green and white competition teams and spent the next 30 minutes laughing and playing games, much to Daisy's amusement. In the end, the white team pulled out the win earning 5 points towards the season's competition. Daisy, being a member of the
white team, was very happy with the outcome. After a great day, it was clear that Daisy fits right in with our family. To make it official, we will be having an adoption ceremony in the spring where we formally adopt Daisy to our team and celebrate our time together.

Holiday Cheer!

Last Friday, Kully had the team over for a Yankee swap and a Holiday Party before we left for break. Our Yankee swap had a $5 cap, so it’s always funny to see the different items people open and it was a lot of fun. Alex had the lucky number 1, so she could pick first and steal at the end. Marissa of course ended up with a Santa costume, which she wore loud and proud, and our suite ended up getting a new fish named Buddy. As always, we all left the party so full with pizza, cupcakes, and cookies, which were all delicious. This team party is always great way to leave the semester for the team and toward the end we discussed pre-season a little further and what is expected of us. That was a good wake up call, especially before break of what we really need to be accomplishing on our own. Our team party ended up being a success and makes us look forward to next semester when we are in season!

All of these first years are great players, but more importantly they are fantastic people. Already they have figured out how to be a student/athlete at Babson and what it means to be a part of the Babson Women's Lacrosse family. They represent all the great alums that have come before them and set such great traditions and pride in place.

Fun Fact: Her middle name is Champion.
What she has to say:
Even though we have to take everyone’s smelly loops on Sundays and sometimes we forget to take the balls out to practice, I have never been on a team like this one in my life. What I love best about the team are the practices, because although they are intense at times everyone can have fun and be focused on lacrosse.

What Kully Says:
We have high hopes for Emma with her speed and endurance. A lot will be asked of her this spring. She will most likely play both ways. Her speed and agility will be critical to our team’s success.

Name: Hilary Reis
Position: Attack Wing
Hometown: Falmouth, Maine
Fun Fact: I have been "clocked" going 72 mph in a downhill course for ski racing.
What she has to say:
The transition to college hasn't been the easiest for me. I hurt both my ankles right as preseason for soccer was ending which has set me back from participating with soccer let alone exercising, and that put a real damper on my first semester in college. Every practice that I watched made me realize just how much I want to get back on the field and play with my new teammates. All the girls are incredibly nice and fun, so I truly feel lucky to be part of such a great team!

Hil is a scrappy midfielder who we will rely on to pick up many lose ground balls and win those 50/50 balls.

Name: Taylor Kralovenec
Nickname: TK
Position: Attack
Hometown: Greenwich, Connecticut
What she has to say:
My experience thus far as a freshmen has been AMAZING!!! I (not to be cliché) really have never felt so welcome before so fast. Some favorite experiences...alumni weekend petting zoo, dance off failure, a scrumptious meal at marissa monaco's house, getting relationship advice (actually that may not count as good times) and captains practices during fall ball were great times as well. one time I had chips and salsa and "gwack" with maphill that was delish. Being a freshmen on this team is wonderful.

“TK makes me laugh every time I see her, she is always smiling and likes to make fun of Anna”
“being a freshman definitely doesn't stop her sarcastic jabs (a good thing of course)”
“TK has great stick skills and will help out the offense this year”
What Kully says:
TK has one of the best shots on the team. She will join some upperclassmen attackers down at the home position. TK comes from a great Greenwich High program that will help her adjust to the college game.

Nickname: Bee
Position: Low Defense/Midfield
Hometown: Bedford, New Hampshire
Fun Fact: She is a superb recorder player. She is also currently playing field hockey.
What she has to say:
So far, I have been loving Babson Lax. The upperclassmen have been welcoming and I think there is team chemistry on and off the field. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to be part of such a successful team, but even more importantly, part of such a fun team. I cannot wait for the spring!

Sara will provide us with her great defensive ability and muscle. She is strong, fast and has the ability to play both ways.

What she has to say:
I've had a very easy transition to college life and I feel that I can attribute most of that to the lacrosse team. Every returning player has been more than welcoming and inclusive, which has made for a smooth social transition. I love playing a sport at Babson because it is something that I am passionate about and can consistently work at to improve.

What Kully Says:
Alex wowed us in the fall. She has walked onto the team and has been such a pleasant surprise. She will be a huge utility player. She can play almost every position and tackles everything with 100% determination.

Fun Fact: Babson is shorter commute to her house than her high school was
What she has to say:
I am not really sure what it is like yet to play two sports, but I am real excited to find out. Playing one sport has been really fun so far because I have had the chance to meet some really amazing people and make friends. Being a Babson athlete is pretty much awesome. It’s a lot of hard work, but very rewarding at the same time.

What Kully says:
As the lone soccer/lax fyear Caroline will most likely make a big impact as a Defender/Dwing. Caroline has great game sense and natural defensive tendencies that will help out our D unit.

Getting in Shape With Catz!

Bulging thighs, pants that don’t fit, shirts that are too tight… no we’re not getting out of shape, we’re just doing CATZ! CATZ stands for Competitive Athletic Training Zone. CATZ is a training program that we’ve been doing as a team since last fall. It helps us to stay in shape by focusing on sprinting, agilities, and weight lifting. CATZ is held 3 days a week for an hour each session. Generally we start with a warm-up and go into some sort of circuit training. Last night for instance we warmed up, did ladder agilities for 5 minutes then medicine ball training for 5 minutes, went into the weight room to participate in an intense arm workout circuit training, and then complete two suicides. After we do it once, we do it again to complete our workout. This program is really helping whip our team into shape and we definitely will see these benefits not only when we have to buy some looser clothes, but more importantly when it comes time for our season!

Fall Ball Scrimmage Vs. Southern New Hampshire University

Yesterday was our first scrimmage as a team vs. Southern New Hampshire University! For only having a couple of weeks of practice, it went really well. We started out a little slow, but everything started to click in the second half. This was a good time to try people in different positions and finally play full field since we’ve been practicing with only 10-12 players in the offseason due to all of our double sport athletes. We ended up tying the game 14-14 with running time. This was definitely a great learning experience for all of us and something that we will build on in the rest of Fall Ball and to start our season!
